| Today was an interesting and exciting day... I made a minimum 1 year
commitment at McEvoy Oil. I had originally applied for the receptionist
position, but in the end was offered a job in accounting... which means
more thinking and higher pay. So, I am really excited about this
opportunity. Here's some thoughts about it all...
I was talking
with my friend Jon about struggling with the decision to work at the
office or really pursue ESL right now. He shared a sermon that he had
heard recently about 'lag time'. Basically, the pastor shared the story
of when Saul was on the road to Damascus and had this amazing
conversion experience and was renamed Paul. He asked God where he
should go and what he should do. Instead of sending him off to preach
the gospel to all nations right away (even though He would call Paul to
that later), God told him to go to Damascus and wait, and see what He
would do. I think this year+ is just one of those waiting times; it's
not what I feel called to be doing for the rest of my life, but it is
what fits now, for this phase.
Thank you to everyone who prayed for guidance in my life decision-making process... I am excited for this next phase of life! | | |
| So I bought a plane ticket to Germany yesterday. I'm going to visit Michele there from March 20 through April 10 (well, visit her along with taking a side trip to Spain and maybe France to visit people). To make a long story short, I had an $800 voucher that expired today, and so I frantically searched for flights, called American Airlines, and rushed to the post office to have my voucher postmarked by today... it looks like everything worked out. So, unless something freaky happened, I guess I'm going to Europe in a couple months, and I am so excited about that! It's kind of fun not being tied down with stuff...
So I guess I get to put off thinking about life for even longer, because honestly, I couldn't really get an ESL job for this coming quarter if I'm going to be leaving for that long. I'll just have to keep praying about what's next, and I think I'm okay with that.

| So I recently went on an adventure-filled roadtrip to Palo Alto, CA with Brian and Michele. Here are some moments...
* Michele and I left around 1PM, got stuck in traffic from Everett to Olympia, and arrived around 7:30 in at Annie's house in Portland. Annie took us to Powell's bookstore, which was amazing (I spent most of my time in the foreign language section, and we were there for nearly 2 hours)! Then, we went to PizzaCotta, which was really good, and walked along the boardwalk for a while. Excellent short exploration of Portland. Brian met us down in Portland, arriving around 12:30 AM.
*We left about 8:30 the next morning and drove down the rest of the way to Palo Alto, stopping along the way at rest stops for peeing, frisbee, etc. Good fun.
*We accidentally drove past Palo Alto, realizing it once we were in San Jose. Slight detour.
*Dinner at Rob's place with Jeffrey, Rob, Rob's "friend" Allie, and us... good food, time for grilling Rob, playing Clue, etc.
*Went to Rob and Jeffrey's church on Sunday... a very fun Presbyterian church. Got to meet some of their friends from church.
*Playing in the park... frisbee, reading, whatever your definition of playing is. :)
*Chinese food and Indiana Jones at some friends' apartment
*Left Palo Alto, made it to Yreka, CA (just south of OR border). Car broke down... something with the axle, hub, etc. Jeffrey and Michele walked into town to find a mechanic and hotel; Brian and I followed once the car cooled down enough.
(On the side of the road near Yreka)

(Michele trying the Harry Potter technique on the car)
(The boys actually trying a reasonable solution... calling dad!)
*Stayed in a hotel in Yreka, ate at the Black Bear Diner... next morning the boys took the car in to the mechanic. Michele and I slept, then swam in the hotel's pool. Jeffrey and I walked to the grocery store and bought lunch stuff. We played Settlers by the pool until the car was ready, which was about 3:10 PM.
*Drove straight home... well, stopping in Portland to get my car from Annie's, then in Seattle to drop off shoes for Michael to take down to Mexico, Michele and I staying awake by singing "Sound of Music" and Disney songs at the top of our lungs, and finally arriving home at 5 AM.
Then, I slept from 5AM until 2 PM and got to the Surgery Center by 3... surgery at 4. Whew!

| Alright, so creepy story...
Last night Michele and Brian came over. They left a little after midnight, and I didn't follow them out to the garage. Reid came in right after them, so I assumed he had shut the garage door. He had assumed that Michele would shut it apparently. So anyways, we both went to bed...
Then, this morning, my mom yells up the stairs for me. "Did you leave the garage door open last night?" She seemed to be freaking out a bit, and it turns out she had valid reason to do so. The contents of her purse had been stolen... well, actually, "just" about $230 cash that she had just taken out of the bank for Reid, her credit cards and car keys. They left the actual purse in the garage (on top of one of Heidi and Kirk's boxes... all their stuff is in the garage, but didn't get stolen). Then they left her drivers license and other random cards including a $50 gift card to Anthony's in our mailbox. Hmm. Well at least they're kind of nice robbers. Don't know. And it seems we will have to have our car locks changed... awesome.
So now I am thoroughly creeped out to think that 1) People were in our garage last night, 2) The door between our garage and our house is never locked, 3) We live out in the middle of nowhere, so I feel like there are people in the woods watching us or something. Tonight I came home around 12:30, and I called home and had my dad come out and watch me safely in because it's just plain creepy. And now I keep hearing noises, and am praying/hoping it's nothing... ahhh. Going to try and sleep now I suppose.

| I saw the Pixar movie, "Cars" the other day. At one point in the movie when the main car left the little town, I found that there were tears in my eyes. Yes, I was actually crying, or at least tearing up, in an animated movie in which there were no "real" characters; they were all cars! Then I started cracking up because... I was crying at "Cars"! What in the world?!?! Random.
